Brooklyn locks down SummerSlam for 2016 and 2017

Brooklyn has locked down SummerSlam for the next two years as WWE today announced that the 2016 and 2017 pay-per-view shows will be taking place at the Barclays Center, the site of this year’s event.

Following this year’s massive success in the area, WWE opted to leave the West Coast again where SummerSlam has been a recurring event in Los Angeles.

In 2016, WWE will host NXT on August 20, SummerSlam on August 21, and Raw on August 22, while in 2017, NXT takes place on August 19, SummerSlam on August 20, and Raw on August 21.

“We are thrilled to build on the success of the 2015 SummerSlam and welcome WWE back to Brooklyn in 2016 and 2017. Big events like SummerSlam help cement New York City’s appeal as a dynamic, high-energy destination,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We’re thankful for WWE’s commitment to Brooklyn, and look forward to a long partnership that benefits the City.”

Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center, added, “We’re excited to be hosting WWE SummerSlam for the next two years. We had an incredible experience this past August and are looking forward to continuing our partnership with WWE and NYC & Company.”

WWE described the Barclays Center, NYC & Company and the City of New York as “incredible partners” to them and judging from the wonderful reception WWE got during those three nights it was not a surprise that they have decided to bring back SummerSlam week back in NYC.
