WWE fans were given a wonderful and delightful surprise yesterday as the Raw Tag Team titles ladder match was turned into a fatal four-way instead of a triple threat, and the hosts, The New Day, introduced The Hardy Boys as the fourth team in the match.
The New Day teased that it was going to be them but then the Team Extreme song kicked in and 75,000 fans in the stadium had the biggest pop of the night by a mile! The hosts moved to the side and danced as Matt and Jeff made their way out.
The duo were not in their Broken gimmick wrestling attire but made several references to it and the fans had a blast chanting “Delete! Delete! Delete!”
This was Matt Hardy’s first appearance on WWE television since September 2010 and Jeff Hardy’s first appearance on WWE television since August 2009. The duo dropped the ROH Tag Team titles in a ladder match the night before WrestleMania to The Young Bucks.
Yesterday prior to Mania, Matt Hardy posted a photo on Twitter of his whole family at the airport saying, “Thanks for a WONDERFUL week, Orlando!” The photo does look a bit photoshopped but it sort of helped in thinking that the Hardys were on the way home.
But after the surprise, Matt Hardy said that their expedition has ended. “Our EXPEDITION ends with us winning the most PRESTIGIOUS Gold there is. NEW #RAW #TagTeamChampions, The Hardys!”
He then thanked “The Day of New” and for those who believed in them. “So many people have believed in my brother & I throughout EVERYTHING. Thank you. Those people are the ones who brought us back,” Matt continued. “WE ARE HOME!”
His wife Reby posted a GIF on Twitter saying “Surprise, bitch” and then Maxel’s Twitter account posted a photo of the baby wearing yellow diapers and a shirt with the WrestleMania logo on them climbing up a ladder. Reby also had another parting shot to Impact Wrestling. “And f*ck that owl.”
