Thiago Silva suspended for testing positive for marijuana metabolites

UFC fighter Thiago Silva was handed a six month suspension for testing positive for marijuana metabolites after his UFC on Fuel TV fight in Macau.

This is his second UFC suspension following a one year ban after he submitted fake urine in a Nevada drug test after his UFC 125 fight against Brandon Vera.

“The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents,” the UFC said in a statement.

“Silva has admitted to taking the banned substance and has agreed to participate in an approved drug-rehabilitation program and serve a six-month suspension retroactive to the November 10 event.”

Silva now must pass another drug test after he completes the suspension before receiving clearance to get in the Octagon once again.

His last fight in Macau – which he won – has been overturned and is now listed as a no contest. Silva pocketed an extra $40,000 that night for submission of the night but obviously that will be taken away too.
