Jury trial involving WWE doc Chris Amann, CM Punk, and Colt Cabana kicks off today

After two weeks of delays, the trial between WWE doc Chris Amann and Phil “CM Punk” Brooks and Scott “Colt Cabana” Colton starts today in Cook County court with Judge Elizabeth M Budzinski presiding.

The trial was supposed to start two weeks ago but the involved parties tried to settle out of court, an exercise which did not work out as planned so the case continued. The jury was selected last week and the trial kicked off today at 9:30AM.

The case was opened on February 19, 2015 when Dr. Chris Amann filed a libel/slander lawsuit against Brooks and Colton, for their explosive podcast a few months earlier accusing Amann of several shortcomings and misdiagnosing Punk’s health issues. In an interview with Ariel Helwani back in 2016, Punk said that this case was designed for him to keep spending money, noting that Amann has WWE bank-rolling the lawsuit.

This trial is taking a lot of valuable time from CM Punk’s training as he is preparing for his return to the UFC at UFC 225, taking place on June 10 in Chicago. Punk, in his second UFC fight, will be facing Mike Jackson. Punk’s fight will kick off the pay-per-view portion of the show.

Dr. Amann is looking for $1 million in damages.
