Roman Reigns surrenders Universal title and reveals battle with leukemia

Roman Reigns announced on Raw that he is suffering from leukemia again and surrendered the WWE Universal title. Reigns said that the cancer has been in remission for the past 11 years and he just found out that it’s back, shedding some light on why he missed the non-televised live events during the weekend as well. Addressing the crowd, Reigns said that for the past year he has said a lot of things, said he’ll be there every week and will be a fighting champion but in reality, they were all lies.

“My name is Joe, and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years. And unfortunately it’s back,” he said to a stunned crowed.

The champ made it clear that he was not out there looking for any sympathy or people feeling bad for him. He’s been diagnosed with leukemia since he was 22 years old but WWE gave him a chance after it went into remission. Reigns thanked WWE and the fans for their support and for making his dreams come true.

Making sure to let everybody know that this was not his retirement speech, he said once he’s done beating cancer again, he’s coming back home but for now, he needs to focus on his family and health. “I am coming back because I want to show all of you, the whole world, I want to show my family, my friends, my children, and my wife that when life throws a curveball at me, I am the type of man that will stand in that batter box…I will crowd the plate, I will choke up, and I will swing for the fences every single time!”

Fans gave him a standing ovation and chanted “Thank you Roman,” something that he has probably never heard during his entire WWE career and then met with his Shield team members at the top of the ramp for one more very emotional fist bump.
