Speaking to the Internet wrestling press during his regularly-scheduled pre-Takeover conference call, Triple H admitted that All Elite Wrestling is “clearly something” that they will keep an eye on as things progress.
“We’ll do what is right for our business, what is right for WWE, what we feel is right for the WWE Universe,” he said, becoming the first WWE official to publicly acknowledge AEW as a potential competitor. “We compete against everything,” he continued, an often-repeated remark that the company competes not just against other wrestling promotions, but anything on television which is either sports and or entertainment.
On a somewhat related topic, Triple H was also asked why NXT Takeover: New York was changed to Friday from Saturday, going back to the old schedule of having NXT on Friday and Hall of Fame on Saturday during WrestleMania weekend.
HHH said that it was mainly “not wanting to make fans choose where they want to go,” referring to the ROH/NJPW Supercard show which has already sold out Madison Square Garden on that Saturday as well. NXT Takeover: New York is still not sold out from the Barclays Center. Around 400 tickets remain available on Ticketmaster.com plus on other secondary market websites.
