Pete Dunne’s incredible run as WWE United Kingdom champion came to a (bitter) end at NXT Takeover: New York as the 25-year-old finally lost the title to Walter after 685 days carrying the title.
Dunne won the title at NXT Takeover: Chicago back in May 2017 from the inaugural champion Tyler Bate. Since then, he pretty much defended the title against everyone on the NXT UK brand and was involved in quite a few match of the year candidates along the way, both on the NXT UK and NXT brands.
Only Bob Backlund, Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, and Hulk Hogan held a WWE title longer than him and Dunne is the longest-reigning champion in WWE in modern-day history, an amazing achievement for the young Brit.
Dunne often pulls double duty as apart from wrestling on the NXT UK brand, he also has matches on NXT sometimes.
