WWE leaves Amway Center after almost four-month residency

WWE said goodbye to the Amway Center yesterday with last night’s Raw being the final show inside the arena for the foreseeable future.

WWE started their residency at the Orlando location on August 21 with Smackdown following months of taping inside the Performance Center. Moving to the Amway allowed WWE to take full advantage of a regular-sized arena, introducing the ThunderDome concept. WWE has taped every Raw, Smackdown, and pay-per-view inside the Amway Center since then.

But with the NBA starting again this month, WWE had to pack up and leave and starting this Friday, the company starts their residency inside the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, and will have their “next iteration” of the ThunderDome inside the baseball field. With the next MLB season starting in April, that means that WWE can use the stadium until then.

Tropicana Field is a massive location compared to the Amway Center and will allow for fans to be seated socially distanced if WWE goes down that route.
