Tony Khan says WWE signs talent to “temporary agreements” only and not real contracts

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, AEW President Tony Khan blasted WWE for signing people to “temporary agreements” rather than a real contract.

Khan said that anyone who comes to wrestle for him know there’s more security and called some of the people he has under contracts as “lifers” who will never leave.

“Some people come in and I feel like this is their actual life and they will be with me for the rest of my life. And I don’t know if everybody who works for my competition can say that,” Khan said, adding that he thinks there are people in WWE who aren’t sure they’re going to be there next week.

Khan said that while he won’t be able to renew everyone’s contract in AEW and won’t be able to bring everyone in, he’s proud that they did not lay off anyone during the pandemic despite not being the most profitable company.

“It’s not anything to be proud of when a company lets all those people go, and when you’re putting press releases out like that frequently [being profitable], I don’t think it’s a good thing,” Khan explained.

He added that when it’s time to let somebody go, he’s going to feel really bad about it and that’s why they have not let many go yet. “I’ve eaten some of those costs, especially through the pandemic when there was really nowhere else to get work in wrestling,” Khan continued.

He also said that he expects AEW to be around for as long as he’s alive, and hopefully he will have kids someday and they’ll be a part of it to.
