Report: Cody Rhodes signs with WWE

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com is reporting that Cody Rhodes has signed with WWE and that was confirmed by multiple sources within the company.

Rhodes, according to the site, signed his deal around two weeks ago but it was kept under wraps. The former AEW TNT champion is listed as working against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38.

If Cody debuts before that remains to be seen as Rollins’ angle right now is that he’s trying to find a path to make it on the WrestleMania card. The last time WWE had a major surprise at WrestleMania was a few years ago at WrestleMania 33 when The Hardy Boyz were added to the Raw Tag Team title ladder match.

PWInsider.com adds that Rhodes will be part of the Raw brand moving forward.

Cody, who announced his separation from AEW on Tuesday, February 15, has not appeared on WWE television since the May 20, 2016 episode of Superstars where he lost to Zack Ryder. The next day, Cody requested his release from WWE, citing his position with the company and frustrations over the continuing use of the Stardust gimmick. His release was granted a day later on May 22.

Since leaving WWE in mid-2016, Cody took the independents by storm and then in 2019 co-founded AEW with Tony Khan spearheading the project, or revolution, as they called it.
