WWE apologizes for using Auschwitz photo during promo video at WrestleMania

WWE got in some hot water for using an image of Auschwitz in the promo video for Rey vs Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania when they were showing Dom doing “hard times.”

The Auschwitz Memorial and Museum called out WWE publicly on Twitter for their choice of image.

“The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call ‘an editing mistake,'” the official Twitter account of the memorial said. “Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz.”

After learning of their silly mistake, WWE quickly replaced that image with a different one of barbed wire in the replay.

In a statement to The Washington Post, a WWE spokesman apologized, calling the footage an error.

“We had no knowledge of what was depicted,” the statement said. “As soon as we learned, it was removed immediately.”
