WWE World Heavyweight title tournament starts next week

The tournament for the new WWE World Heavyweight title will commence this coming Monday on Raw and will take place across both brands despite the Draft.

On Raw, there will be two triple threat matches where the winners will face each other later in the night. The same thing will happen next Friday on Smackdown, with two triple threat matches and winners facing off in the main event.

The winners from those Raw and Smackdown main event matches will then face each other at Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 27 with the winner crowned the new WWE World Heavyweight champion. Since the title will be the property of Monday Night Raw, if the title is won by the Smackdown star, that person would be then moved to the red brand.

The announcement was made by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque at the Backlash 2023 press conference in San Juan today.
