The WWE Women’s and NXT Women’s Tag Team titles will be rolled into one once and for all on Friday Night Smackdown tonight with both sets of champions aiming to become the unified WWE Women’s Tag Team champions.
Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler are the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team champs while Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre are the NXT Women’s Tag Team champions. One of those two teams will be leaving the arena with both sets of titles as WWE is retiring the NXT Women Tag Team titles effective tonight.
Introduced in 2021, the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles had nine different set of teams who carried the gold, with only one team – Toxic Attraction – winning the titles twice. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter have the record of the longest reign with 186 days but Toxic Attraction have two reigns amounting to 247 days.
With lack of women tag teams both on the main roster and in NXT, it was the best decision to unify these belts and have them defended across all three brands.
Dawn and Fyre won these titles at the Stand & Deliver premium live event this past April in Los Angeles. The titles were last defended on the May 2 episode of NXT.
