Speaking to the New York Post in a story published today, WWE World Heavyweight champion Damian Priest addressed for the first time the situation from Money In The Bank, where he did not kick out after he was pinned by Seth Rollins and the referee actually had to break the count to prevent a title change.
Priest was the subject of many ridicule online for the botch, with many online commentators saying that he forgot to kick out.
“The idea that I forgot to kick out, that’s not a thing. That’s not a thing. We don’t forget to kick out,” Priest told the NY Post. “Twenty years in, I’m pretty sure there is some kind of muscle memory there.”
Priest said that this was not a case of him forgetting and there was nothing outside that was supposed to happen.
“It was a matter of there was a situation, but I’m OK. Everybody’s fine, the story continues,” Priest said.
The NY Post noted that the champion did not want to get into anything medical around the situation, saying it was personal.
“It doesn’t affect anything,” Priest continued. “The show goes on and I think fans are very invested in everything that’s going on. The ones that matter knew the situation and nobody thought twice about it. It was, move on.”
