Awesome Kong discusses her surprise return to All Elite Wrestling

In an interview with the Asbury Park Press, Kia Stevens, the artist also known as Awesome Kong, discussed the new series of GLOW on Netflix as well as her involvement with All Elite Wrestling.

Kong made a surprise appearance at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view this past May and was also at the Fight For The Fallen show as Brandi Rhodes’ “insurance policy.”

Talking about returning to the Awesome Kong gimmick, Stevens said that it was “a strangle” to get back in it because the character is so different from her real-life persona. But it was Diamond Dallas Page who gave her a good pep-talk backstage and the former Impact Knockouts champion was back ready to show how awesome she is.

“The reception was so breathtaking that my knees almost buckled,” Stevens said. “I almost didn’t make it to that ring because my legs turned to jelly. I love wrestling fans for that.”

Kia seems like she’s sticking around with All Elite Wrestling while also pulling double duty as she works with the television series GLOW.

“I think it’s possible, I think it’s very possible,” she said. “We’re certainly going to try. AEW is very flexible, and they want to give the wrestling community what they want.”
