Claudio Castagnoli wins the ROH World title

Claudio Castagnoli won the ROH World title last night during Death Before Dishonor, his first major singles titles in a very long time.

The Swiss Superman, who only won the WWE United States title as a singles competitor in WWE, never won the ROH World title before despite wrestling for the promotion between 2005 and 2011. His only title in ROH back then was the Tag Team titles with Chris Hero.

During the media scrum with the press following the pay-per-view, Castagnoli said that he had a great month in AEW and this was a nice way to top it off. He said that his win was just the beginning and will do his best to meet all expectations that a champion usually has.

Castagnoli arrived in AEW last month as a surprise opponent for Zack Sabre Jr at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, replacing Bryan Danielson who was injured.

During the same media scrum, Tony Khan mentioned that Castagnoli was supposed to be the mystery opponent for tonight’s ROH World title match but the Danielson injury changed everything.
