CM Punk gets AEW World title shot against Hangman at Double or Nothing

CM Punk will get his first AEW World title shot next month as he will be challenging champion Hangman Adam Page in the main event of Double or Nothing in Las Vegas.

Since his return to the ring nine months ago, Punk has not challenged for any title and after a brief stare down last week with Page, AEW made the match official last night, although with hardly any build because Page tested positive for COVID-19 and missed the show.

The match was announced after the opening segment of the show with FTR colliding and Punk on commentary. Following the announcement, Punk hit the ring and cut a promo, saying that come Double or Nothing, win, lose, or draw, Hangman will know he’s been in a fight with him.

Dave Meltzer of the Observer adds that an angle was supposed to be shot to build towards the announcement of the match last night but with Page not being there, several segments had to be re-written.

Double or Nothing will take place from the T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, May 29.
