Cody Rhodes a free agent, working for AEW without a contract

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Wrestling broke the news that Cody Rhodes, the current TNT champion is currently a free agent and has not signed a new deal with AEW. The news was part of the Fightul Select premium service.

His contract ran at the end of 2021 and Cody, who also holds an executive position with the company is working on what seems to be a handshake agreement.

What led to him not signing yet remains a mystery but it’s highly unlikely and remotely unthinkable that he will leave the promotion that he helped create.

Rhodes, along with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, were the driving forces behind AEW along with Tony Khan. Last year rumors started surfacing that the relationship between Rhodes, Matt and Nick Jackson, and Kenny Omega was fractured and they don’t all see “eye-to-eye.”

Cody has not indicated anywhere that he intends on leaving AEW and it looks like it will only be just a matter of time before he puts pen to paper.

He missed the last two weeks of television due to being in quarantine because of a family member who had COVID-19 but will be back on Dynamite this Wednesday.

Rhodes missed the Battle of the Belts show and AEW crowned an interim champion, Sammy Guevara, in the mean time.
