First match for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door teased with Tanahashi appearance

The first match for the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view was planted yesterday with AEW World champion CM Punk seemingly getting to know his opponent for the show.

After Punk and FTR won their opening match of the night, the trio were interrupted by Hiroshi Tanahashi, one of the most popular stars in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Punk held up the title while in the ring as Tanahashi stayed at the top of the ramp and pointed at Punk.

The 45-year-old is a former eight-time IWGP Heavyweight champion and two-time IWGP Intercontinental champion. He has been wrestling for New Japan since 1999. A few years ago, Tanahashi wrestled Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14, with Jericho going over.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is set for Sunday, June 26, live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
