Ruby Soho, the artist formerly known as Ruby Riott in the WWE, made her AEW debut last night as The Joker in the Casino Battle Royale.
Soho eventually went on to win the match and earn a future shot at the AEW Women’s title. She and Thunder Rosa, one of the favorites to win the match, were the final two in the 21-woman battle royale but it was the newcomer who came out with the W.
During the post-show media scrum, an emotional Soho called it the pinnacle of her career to make it to AEW and was overjoyed when she heard the fans chanting for her, adding that AEW is important for the evolution of women’s wrestling.
The 30-year-old was released from WWE in May of this year in one of the many rounds of cuts following WrestleMania, ending her six-year career working for the promotion. Despite being an accomplished wrestler, she was never given a proper opportunity in WWE especially following the end of The Riott Squad.
