The current AEW World Tag Team champions, The Young Bucks, are the latest who got interviewed by Chris Van Vliet for his podcast.
The brothers talked about a variety of subjects, including being Executive Vice Presidents of All Elite Wrestling, the ratings war with NXT, and much more.
In the interview, Nick said that he has to “pinch himself” every Wednesday because he never thought they’d be doing this on a weekly basis. “It still feels like a dream. The hard part is the job and keeping everyone happy because you don’t even really realize it until you get into management that’s it’s hard to keep a lot of these wrestlers on the same page,” he continued as he explained the difficulties of holding an office job apart from being a wrestler.
“Because obviously there’s a lot of egos in wrestling and you want the wrestlers to be happy and that’s something that’s hard but it’s manageable and we’ve learned that you can’t always be the good guy so at some points you have to be the bad guy,” he continued.
Speaking about the ratings, Matt said that they pay attention to the numbers and everything they do because everything is now a competition. He admitted that their fans are very loyal to the company and no matter what’s on against them, they have a good base that will always watch no matter what.
The two also talked about balancing storylines and in-ring action, saying that Dynamite might not be as good as the previous week because you have to make a sacrifice and do something people won’t like or won’t feel like it’s necessary to watch.
“So that’s been a challenge having interesting storylines that normal people are interested in watching because sometimes we’ll maybe over complicate something or try to make it a little too complex and sometimes wrestling fans just kind of want to watch wrestling.”
