Standing 6’9’’ and seeking to grow his American fan base, Tyson Fury made the bold move to step into professional wrestling. This wasn’t a mere cameo, either. The towering Brit worked hard to build up a grudge with Braun Strowman, which culminated in a match at WWE Crown Jewel – which Fury won.
When the WWE came to Manchester, UK, Fury appeared to align to team up with Strowman for a tag team match, but that was in 2019. He did make his return to the wrestling scene in September 2022, being in the audience and intervening in the WWE Clash at the Castle rumble between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre.
The larger-than-life boxer has one of the biggest boxing events since the turn of the millennium on the way, but given his draw and clear affinity for pro wrestling, is there a chance that we’ll see Fury return to the WWE?
Two more boxing bouts, regardless of the outcome
In the first fight to decide an undisputed heavyweight king with four belts on the line, the experts just can’t split Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Both come in at 1.90, which is as close as you can get in the odds. Such a close contest has fans lapping up the bet365 bonus code NZ to back one of the two incredibly talented boxers.
Graded in review as an excellent welcome bonus, it grants up to $100 in Bet Credits to apply to the great odds that help to make it a five-star betting site. In the ring, The Gypsy King certainly has the physical advantage with his 85’’ reach – a seven-inch advantage – but many consider Usyk to be the most technically skilled heavyweight boxer around.
It’s very easy to see either one of them winning, perhaps more along the lines of Fury via a form of knockout or Usyk on points, but whatever the result, the May 18 bout won’t be the last. As reported by DAZN live at AJ’s fight against Francis Ngannou, Fury confirmed that there is a rematch clause for the battle to become undisputed.
Will Fury have enough in the tank after Usyk?
After the second fight, if Fury comes away with the belts, it would seem likely that he’d try to defend the crown in a big-money bout against a fighter like Anthony Joshua. Should he lose the second fight, and even the first one for two losses in a row, he could try to rebuild for another title shot, but that could take years, and he’ll be 36 years old by then.
So, perhaps losing his title would open The Gypsy King up to more WWE action. In October 2023, before he fought Ngannou, Fury said, “There is still a lot of opportunity [in the WWE].” Shortly after making that claim, ESPN’s interview with Fury revealed that he doesn’t intend to return to the wrestling arena.
He’s quoted as saying, “WWE’s too hard for me… It’s very physical and taxing on the body.” However, Fury’s plans change like the wind. He’s been retired more than once and had title clashes set in stone not to come to fruition. So, him saying he won’t return to the WWE now could very easily switch by the end of 2024 after two fights with Usyk.
The Gypsy King’s foray into the WWE was headline-grabbing and good fun, and while he may currently be against returning to pro wrestling, that could all change very quickly.
