What you need to know about the latest title in the swell of wrestling games

There’s very little doubt that the golden age of wrestling games came and went a couple of generations of consoles ago. Games like WWF SmackDown! 2, WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain, and WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw are among the big-hitters and perhaps among the greatest sports games of all-time.

However, that’s not to say that there aren’t some modern gems hitting the market, offering eccentric entertainment and fun gameplay. The WWE’s latest crack at new-age gaming comes in the form of WWE Undefeated, which is set to hit the virtual stores on December 3, per Sportskeeda.com.

Here’s what you need to know about it and the recent wave of wrestling-themed games to hit the scene.

WWE Undefeated arrives with legends and head-to-head battles

WWE Undefeated is all about going head-to-head in eccentric fights with over-the-top action. Being built for iOS and Android devices, the wrestling game offers streamlined mobile play. The matches feature fast, high-powered action, and you’ll have access to deep RPG options for each fighter outside of the square circle. By collecting and upgrading your wrestler’s moves, you’ll be able to get an edge in matches.

As far as superstars go, anyone who downloads WWE Undefeated should be able to find one of their favorites. The roster includes The Rock, Kofi Kingston, Roman Reigns, ‘The Fiend,’ Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles if you pre-register at WWEUndefeated.com. Each wrestler comes in with an exaggerated version of their signature move, making it even more exciting when deployed in-game to oust your foe.

The mobile game looks exciting enough and will undoubtedly be given updates down the line that bring in new events and wrestlers. That said, in mobile games, the key to it having any value is how much it leans on its freemium economy. If you can develop decent wrestlers without too much grind and matches are decided more by skill than premium items, WWE Undefeated could prove to be a fun action game.

Adding to the stack of new wrestling titles

Many WWE game fans will notice that WWE Undefeated is how similar it is in its design and angle to WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Released to give the developers of WWE 2K more time to improve on their lackluster effort last time out, the game of dumpy wrestlers received a mixed response. However, according to ScreenRant.com, the team keeps adding to the title, with Booker T, Batista, and Goldberg on the way for free.

Luckily, wrestling hasn’t been monopolized by the WWE in the gaming space, with plenty of other developers of different sizes and platforms utilizing the sport. The online gaming platform with the highest-rating at Bonus.ca has earned its praise through its massive selection of games, which includes several wrestling titles. Leaning into the sport’s Mexican side, both Lucha Legends and Luchadora continue to draw in slot fans.

Pro-wrestling has always been a sport about flair, which has allowed indie studios to stretch the theme beyond the regular format. The Nintendo Switch platform is the best place to find great indie games and is where you’ll find the recent releases of Chiki-Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling, ACA Neogeo 3 Count Bout, and Guacamelee! 2. On PC, you can also find a favorite genre in the wrestling theme, the management sim, with Total Extreme Wrestling 2020 putting you in charge of your own company.

WWE Undefeated could prove to be an action-packed, strategic wrestling game that’s easily accessed by all fans. If not, there’re plenty of great new games across all platforms to enjoy.
