Which team can prove itself to be the German champion?

The DFB Cup is in its prime stage. Many world-class teams are already out. Which team can claim the beloved trophy?

Who will win this year’s DFB Cup?

The next big surprise in the DFB Cup is perfect! Borussia Dortmund was knocked out by second-division team FC St. Pauli. FC Bayern Munich had already been eliminated one round earlier. Who is now the favourite to secure the DFB Cup? We’ll be going into more detail about this in the aftermath.

Top teams already out

Borussia Dortmund has been knocked out of the DFB Cup after losing to FC St. Pauli in the round of 16, leaving its fans without a chance to support them on one of the sites https://hellsbet.com/en-au/ offers. FC Bayern had already been eliminated one round earlier against Borussia Mönchengladbach. A quarterfinal without the participation of the two top clubs is almost a historic event when you look at the history books.

When the DFB Cup final is played at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on May 21, 2022, neither Borussia Dortmund nor FC Bayern will be on the pitch for the first time in eleven years – this has been certain since BVB’s defeat in the round of 16 against FC St. Pauli (1:2) on Tuesday evening.

To sum it up: None of the past 26 DFB Cup winners are still in the competition. The last title holder still in the cup is Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Foals secured the trophy in 1995 and still have a chance to make the quarterfinals at Hannover 96 on Wednesday.

Five second-division teams still in the race

Since Bayern and Dortmund, probably the two biggest lumps, have already been eliminated from the competition, Gladbach can justifiably hope for a long “survival” in the cup. But the other teams can also dream of a coup more than usual. With St. Pauli, Hamburger SV and Karlsruher SC, three second-division teams are already in the quarterfinals. Hansa Rostock and Hannover 96 could follow suit on Wednesday.

The last remaining second-division team in the competition, Hamburger SV, and SC Freiburg will play in the first semifinal of the DFB Cup.

The match will be played at Volksparkstadion on April 19, while the clash between title favourites RB Leipzig and Union Berlin will take place on April 20. This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Tuesday.

HSV could become the first second-division club to reach the final since MSV Duisburg (2011). The final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion will take place on May 21.

Final words

There is no question that the DFB tournament has taken an incredible turn. Where the big teams have failed, the underdogs are stepping in, which have come very far in the tournament through surprising performances. This ensures that the level of surprise continues to rise. After all, it’s still not clear who will win the trophy in the end. However, it is certain that every game will be an adrenaline-filled experience for spectators.

If it really happens, a second-division team, for example, can secure a German title for the first time. Of course, this cannot be ruled out. However, the competition is still incredibly strong, so it remains to be seen who will win the actual title in the end and do their team credit.
