Andre The Giant biographical film announced

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that an Andre The Giant biopic is being developed by Lion Forge Comics and producers Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell. The announcement came from the filmmakers themselves yesterday.

The movie is based on the authorized graphic novel biography Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven, which was written by Brandon Easton and illustrated by Denis Medri. The film will chronicle Andre Roussimoff’s journey from French farm boy to his glory days as a professional wrestler while also exploring the physical and emotional challenges he faced.

“Andre the Giant rode the wave of the rise of wrestling in America, while suffering from the painful health condition of gigantism,” Steindorff said in the announcement. “There’s an Elephant Man story here.”

Roussimoff’s daughter, Robin Christensen-Roussimoff, will consult on the film, and David Steward II and Carl Reed will produce alongside Steindorff and Russell.
