Chris Jericho becomes the new IWGP Intercontinental champion

Chris Jericho became the new IWGP Intercontinental champion after defeating Tetsuya Naito today at the NJPW Dominion 6.9 show in Osaka, Japan.

The insane match lasted almost 18 minutes and saw Jericho win the match after a low blow and the Codebreaker finisher. After the match, the new champ continued to beat on Naito with the title until EVIL ran in to make the save and send Jericho away.

The feud between Jericho and Naito started at the New Year Dash the night after Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January and then Jericho once again attacked Naito at Wrestling Dontaku in May. Jericho becomes the only person to win the WWE and IWGP Intercontinental titles. This is also his first title win in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

In first comments on Instagram, Jericho posted a photo with the title and wrote that Naito is amazing but there’s a new champion in town.
