Dwayne Johnson to serve as EP on new HBO show about backyard wrestling

Dwayne Johnson is getting back in business with HBO after the successful Ballers series wrapped up, but this time, as executive producer of a new show about the creation of a backyard wrestling promotion according to an exclusive story by Variety.

The project has a working title of TRE CNT, standing for Tre Count, and focuses on a young dock worker who is also a struggling professional wrestler who uses inherited life insurance money to start up a hip-hop centric backyard wrestling promotion in Houston’s Third Ward (The Tre).

Mohamad El Masri will serve as an executive producer and writer while Judah Miller will also be an executive producer and will serve as show runner. Johnson and his business partner Dany Garcia will executive produce along with Hiram Garcia under their Seven Bucks Productions banner. Rae and Montrel McKay will executive produce via Issa Rae Productions. Dave Becky, Tom Lassally, and Jonathan Berry will executive produce for 3 Arts Entertainment.
