Former UFC and WWE star Cain Velasquez arrested following shooting

Former UFC Heavyweight champion and for a short time WWE Superstar as well Cain Velasquez was arrested yesterday after he was involved in a shooting which left one man injured.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon in Morgan Hill, California, with the San Jose Police Department investigating the case according to NBC Bay Area.

Velasquez is currently locked up at the County of Santa Clara Department of Corrections facility without bail. It’s unclear if Velasquez was the one who pulled the trigger in the shooting but with no bail allowed, chances are that the former UFC and WWE star is the assailant.

The victim, who according to a tweet by the San Jose Police Media Relations was shot at least once, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Velasquez made his WWE debut on the debut episode of Smackdown on FOX in October 2019, confronting Brock Lesnar. The two wrestled each other in Saudi Arabia later that month, a match which Lesnar won. He was released in April 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic budget cuts.

He holds an MMA record of 14-3, including a win over Brock Lesnar from October 2010 where he won the UFC Heavyweight title. He last fought for the UFC in February 2019, losing in 26 seconds to Francis Ngannou.

UPDATE: TMZ.COM published the mug shot which was taken by police when Velasquez was booked.
