James “Kamala” Harris passes away at age 70

James Harris, better known to wrestling fans as Kamala, passed away yesterday at the age of 70.

Harris, who suffered from multiple health issues, tested positive for COVID-19 last week according to his wife. ESPN reporter Jason King wrote that Harris was feeling fine in the morning but then went into cardiac arrest and never recovered from it.

Harris made his wrestling career in 1978 and remained active until 2010. During his time in the ring, he wrestled for a ton of promotions including the WWF, WCW, Mid-South Wrestling, WCCW, USWA, and many others.

Perhaps his most popular time was in the WWF where he made his debut at Kamala, and was managed by Freddie Blassie, The Wizard, Harvey Wippleman, and Kim Chee.

Harris had a string of health-related problems and in November 2011, he had his left leg amputated below the knee due to high blood pressure and diabetes. A few months later, his right leg was amputated as well. In late 2017, Harris also underwent emergency surgery to clear fluid from around his heart and lungs and was on life support for a few days due to complications.
