Jerry “The King” Lawler returned to the ring for USA Championship Wrestling two days after burying his son Brian.
Lawler told ABC affiliate WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that being in the ring yesterday was “almost therapeutic” for him as ever since he got the call about his son, it has been a nightmare.
“I think the main thing was, at least for me, it was something that Brian would have been proud of. It was something that Brian would have loved to have been a part of and, in a sense, he was,” Lawler added.
Lawler, who sported his son’s wrestling vest as a tribute, wrestled former WWE star James Ellsworth on the show.
On Twitter, Ellsworth wrote, “Just wrestled the most emotional match of my career. Words can’t describe the amount of respect I have for @JerryLawler. It’s a true honor and pleasure to share the ring with him always.”
