Judge in Hogan vs Gawker case suggests to reach out-of-court settlement

The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that the judge overseeing the Hulk Hogan vs Gawker case has suggested to both parties to “seek mediation” instead of a trial. Judge Pamela Campbell made her suggestion during a discussion about attorneys’ upcoming review of DVDs made during an FBI sting operation.

“After the attorneys have an opportunity to look at those DVDs, I’m going to suggest that the attorneys or that you go back to mediation. I’m not going to require it, but I think you’ll see why.”

Both sides will now review a total of five DVDs supplied by the FBI, DVDs that the judge has already reviewed. She said that some of the DVDs are definitely not admissible in court and urged the attorneys to listen to the audio from the FBI sting operation before they watch the videos.

“I’ll let you all review them, and then we can discuss what each side wants to do with them, which for the majority of those DVDs, it’s slim to none.”

If they can’t reach an out-of-court settlement, the trial will head to jury selection on March 7.
