Linda McMahon was confirmed as Secretary of Education yesterday after The Senate voted 51-45 in favor of President Trump’s pick.
McMahon will now oversee the nation’s education department, a department which President Trump has asked McMahon to eventually close down, putting her out of a job.
A statement from McMahon said that she is deeply grateful for the President for his trust in her to serve in his Cabinet.
“I am prepared to lead the Department in this transformational time and embrace the challenge to improve the education system for the more than 100 million children and college students who deserve better,” she wrote.
“President Trump pledged to make American education the best in the world, return education to the states where it belongs, and free American students from the education bureaucracy through school choice. I intend to make good on that promise,” McMahon continued.
This is McMahon’s second time on Trump’s cabinet after she was picked as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration during his first term.
McMahon was sworn in as the 13th Secretary of Education by Jacqueline Clay, the Chief Human Capital Officer at the Department of Education.
