Lio Rush announces retirement from pro wrestling

Former WWE Cruiserweight champion Lio Rush announced that he is retiring from professional wrestling. The announcement was made in a post on social media.

“It’s been a crazy ride, but it’s time to get off and do what truly makes me happy,” Rush wrote.

The 26-year-old wrote in an Instagram post that he suffered a separated AC joint in his shoulder during AEW’s Double or Nothing where he was a surprise entrant in the Casino Battle Royale. He added that AEW wanted to sign him but the injury was an eye-opener because now he can’t even hold up his young child.

Rush said that once he’s healed up, he will finish his contractual obligations with New Japan Pro Wrestling and call it a day.

Meanwhile, AEW President Tony Khan issued a statement saying that the Lio Rush news was unexpected but he’s glad he made a choice that will make him and his family happy. “Lio is a great talent, and I enjoyed briefly working with him, and I absolutely wish him the best,” Khan wrote.

Rush wrestled for WWE between 2017 and 2020, first as a singles star and then joining Bobby Lashley. Prior to WWE and New Japan, he also worked for CZW, ROH, and several indie companies.
