Former AEW star Marko Stunt announced that he is retiring from professional wrestling at age 28.
“Today, I write this with a heavy yet grateful heart as I announce my retirement from professional wrestling,” Stunt wrote. “This decision was not an easy one, as wrestling has been the biggest part of my life for so long, filled with moments that have shaped who I am today.”
He noted that this journey was filled with passion, sweat, tears, and unrivaled joy and while he’s aware that he’s not the biggest, he allowed himself to get battered, and loved it.
“However, after consulting with my doctor, I was advised to prioritize my long-term health and step down from in-ring competition. Accepting this reality has been one of the toughest moments of my career, but I know it is the right decision,” he continued.
Stunt thanked AEW for giving him the chance to showcase his abilities and share his passion with fans around the world. He also thanked Brett Lauderdale and Game Changer Wrestling for giving him his start and launching his career.
He also had a shout out to all the wrestlers who he shared a ring with, thanking them for teaching him lessons, pushing him to his limits, and sharing unforgettable moments and also the fans who cheered, supported, and believed in him through every match and every show.
“As I step away from the ring, I take with me memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. While I may be retiring from in-ring competition, wrestling will always be a part of who I am,” Stunt said. “I hope to continue contributing to this amazing industry in different ways and to stay connected with all of you who made this dream a reality. Thank you for everything.”
Stunt was one of the AEW originals, aligning himself with Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus to form Jurassic Express. He was released from his contract in 2022.
