Matt Cardona says he was not offered an AEW contract, wants to go back to WWE

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Matt Cardona refuted the reports that he was offered an AEW contract following his short stint with ROH which culminated with an ROH World title shot against Chris Jericho last month.

Cardona made a surprise appearance on ROH TV in early December and went for Chris Jericho, challenging him for the title at the Final Battle show.

“We do weeks of great TV and then nothing. Even Dave Meltzer reported I got a contract offer,” Cardona told Helwani. “Sorry Dave, you’re wrong. I didn’t get one.”

Cardona expressed his wish to return to WWE, saying he thinks he earned the opportunity to go back and does not like to use the word ‘deserved’ in this instance.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want another WrestleMania moment, or wrestle at MSG, or to be on Smackdown with my wife,” Cardona said. “If my music hit at the Royal Rumble…the place would explode, the roof would go off the place, social media would explode, I’d move merch. I know that.”

Cardona said that he has not been offered anything from WWE. Asked why there has been no offers, Cardona said he doesn’t know, and while communication is very cordial, nothing came out of it.

He added that while he can’t live his life waiting for a call back, but if they do, there’s a catchphrase he uses and it’s ‘always ready.’

“I would love to go back if the circumstances are correct,” Cardona said.
