Matt Riddle loses his EVOLVE title amidst rumors of WWE deal

With rumors of Matt Riddle already signing a WWE deal that will see him make his on-screen debut at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4, the former mixed martial artist lost his EVOLVE title this past weekend.

Riddle dropped the title to Shane Strickland at EVOLVE 108 in a hardcore match taped at the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He has already dropped from several indie shows he was booked to appear for later this month but he will have a few more appearances for EVOLVE this month. Indie promotion Combat Zone Wrestling advertised Riddle for their July 28 show as “one of Matt Riddle’s final appearances before going to WWE.”

Riddle’s time with WWE will be interesting due to his constant use of marijuana which has prevented him from working with the big leagues and WWE does not allow the substance to be consumed as part of their Wellness Program. Riddle tested positive twice for marijuana while in the UFC, overturning two of his wins to no contests.
