Mercedes Mone’s run as IWGP Women’s champion came to a screeching halt today as “The Icon” Mayu Iwatani defeated Mone in a hard-hitting 13-minute match at Stardom’s All Star Grand Queendom pay-per-view today.
Mone came out for the co-main event match with a tribute to Eddie Guerrero, wearing a Black Tiger mask and sporting red and black hair. But it was the 30-year-old with the side pony-tail who bested Mone this time around, with Iwatani finishing off the champion with a cool-looking dragon suplex which bent Mone in half for the surprise three-count.
Following the match and the celebrations, Iwatani called out Mone back in the ring. Still selling her injuries, Mone took the mic and told the crowd that she loves being the CEO of Stardom and then addressed Iwatani.
“You showed me that you truly are The Icon of Stardom pro wrestling,” Mone said, before telling her to take care of the IWGP Women’s title and go show the world why she really is “The Icon.”
The two then hugged in the ring and raised each other’s hand as fans applauded.
