Wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino undergoes back surgery

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino underwent successful back surgery this past week in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sammartino was confined to a hospital bed for the majority of June.

Dr. Joseph Maroon, who heads up the WWE medical department, led the team of surgeons who performed the operation on Sammartino. Maroon has been Sammartino’s personal physician for years says Meltzer and also was involved in his previous back surgery years go.

Sammartino is back home and recuperating. The former WWWF champion was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 by Arnold Schwarzenegger at Madison Square Garden, the very same place that Sammartino sold out many times for the McMahon family.
