WWE Crown Jewel 2023 Pick’em report

Hello everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with yet another installment of the Pick’em report. Tonight, Colin and I will go toe-to-toe in an eternal struggle here at WWE CROWN JEWEL to find out who is the WOPC Champion. Last month at FastLane, it only took 30 minutes for me to retain the title (a new record!) but today won’t be so easy. Most nights, Colin and I are on the same page when it comes to our picks…with one or two exceptions. Tonight? Anything can happen, because our picks are all over the place! To quote DDP…that’s not a bad thing…that’s a good thing!

With that in mind, ON WITH THE PICKS!!

Pre-Show Featured Match
Sami Zayn vs. JD McDonagh

Colin: They’re probably going all the way to WarGames at Survivor Series with this feud but if they are, after that, this Judgment Day vs SZ/KO/Cody etc needs to stop. We’ve seen every kind of matches between all of them and it’s time to move on to new stuff. McDonagh needs a good win here and I am picking him for the W.

Magnum: I couldn’t agree more with Colin – we’ve seen every combination between these two groups, and the time has come to give this thing a blowoff so we can prepare for the upcoming Winter programs/storylines. As I watch Sami against the Judgment Day, I can’t help but feel like we’re watching a guy slowly descend into madness. It makes me wonder…if Sami loses this match, is he going to jump off the deep end? I think that side of him is coming…just not tonight. I’ll pick Sami with a big win to get the show off to a flying start.

WWE United States Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Logan Paul

Colin: This is a title I can see Logan Paul carrying around. Rey Mysterio doesn’t need a title at this point in his career and not even Paul to be quite honest, but giving Paul the title will get some additional exposure. Logan for the win. #ANDNEW

Magnum: I’m with Colin 100% on this – with all of his other shenanigans behind him, Paul’s now got his sights set on championship gold. Rey’s going to make this kid look like a million bucks, and Logan’s going have some tricks up his sleeve too. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Dom make an appearance during this match, leading to Logan Paul becoming the NEW United States Champion. I can’t believe I’m typing that!

Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest

Colin: I wish this was for Priest’s MITB briefcase and Cody gets it away from him. I still can’t picture Priest as a champion, if he’s successful in cashing in that is. In any case, Rhodes has to win here for a variety of reasons, especially if Priest will try to cash in later.

Magnum: Hmm…cash in later…tonight? Colin might be onto something there. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Damian made his move at the Survivor Series. As for tonight? It’s Cody’s night to deliver a little punishment to the former Punisher Martinez. Give me Cody to win after some Judgment Day shenanigans go awry.

John Cena vs. Solo Sikoa

Colin: I’m torn on this one. If Cena is leaving again now, then Sikoa should go out on top. Does Cena need the win? Probably not, but he lost to Austin Theory already this year and needs something to get him back up for the potential retirement match soon. Cena wins.

Magnum: Probably the toughest match to call on the card, to be quite honest. John has built this up to be his first singles win in many years, but it almost feels like that would be a set-up for him to lose again. That would build on the retirement narrative (as mentioned above). Man…you know, Colin and I pick a lot of the same matches on these reports, so let’s mix it up. I’ll take Solo for the monumental upset.

WWE Women’s Championship
Iyo Sky (c) (with Bayley and Dakota Kai) vs. Bianca Belair

Colin: I like Bianca, but I can’t see her win this so soon. With the impending return of The Pirate Princess, it would be cool if she could feud with SKY for the title. I’m thinking Belair loses here with some kind of interference and SKY retains.

Magnum: Another tough one, because under any other circumstance Bianca should steamroll over The Genius of The Sky. That said, having Damage CTRL at ringside changes things up a little bit. You know what would be awesome? If this was the catalyst for the Women’s War Games Match. I’ll take Iyo to retain on this occasion, but don’t be surprised if Bianca gets some help from a few unlikely allies…namely Asuka and the returning Kairi Sane!

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Seth “Freakin” Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

Colin: Drew still has not signed a new WWE contract and still hasn’t had a title reign in front of fans. If I were the booker man, I would take the title off Rollins and allow Drew to have a heel run as champion. Drew wins. #ANDNEW

Magnum: Now THAT takes some big balls. Say what you will about Colin, but he’s no Miz when it comes to the Pick’em report. A dude whose contract is not renewed…walking out with the World Heavyweight Championship? In my opinion, it’s probably more likely that Damian Priest walks out with the title (and not Drew). But hey, that’s why we play the game, right? While it’s possible that Priest cashes in, I’m going to say that he would take the title from Seth before Drew. So with that in mind, we’ll take Rollins to retain the title.

Women’s World Championship – Fatal 5 Way
Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Rodriguez

Colin: Mami mami mami. There’s no way Ripley is losing this one. Can’t see any of the rest as champions at the moment. But if they had to do a title change, this would be a good match to do it as they could protect Rhea by having someone else pin a different person who is not the champion. Anyway, Rhea retains.

Magnum: This feels like the hossfight of the year in the Women’s division. I expect complete chaos. I also expect people to get hurt, because Nia Jax is in the match (sorry, not sorry). In the end, Rhea is going to do something amazing (please be an Electric Chair Drop to Jax onto a chair) and retain the title. You know why? Because Mami is always on top!!!

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) (with Paul Heyman) vs. LA Knight

Colin: I think it was a mistake to do this match because you know Roman Reigns is not losing and this could halt the momentum that Knight has. The only way he can save face is if he loses thanks to a bunch of outside interference where the odds are stacked against him. Reigns wins.

Magnum: In keeping with the tradition of Colin and I making different picks, I’m going to tell you exactly how this match plays out: LA Knight pins Roman Reigns and wins.

Simple as that…or is it?

Remember a week ago, when LA Knight brushed aside Roman and signed the contract without looking at it? I think Knight will mow down the Tribal Chief and hit the BFT for the 1…2…3! Afterwards, we’ll discover that the contract LA Knight signed…was not for the WWE Universal Championship. It was for a non-title match! That should get the crowd riled up. Still, it will be a huge deal for Knight to secure the first 1-on-1 win vs. Roman Reigns on PPV in years. In the end, however, Roman still leaves with the WWE Universal Championship.

Alright everyone, that’s going to do it for the Pick’em report! Enjoy the show, and we’ll see you at the Survivor Series!! @TheMagnumDA signing off.
