AJ Styles wins the United States title at house show in Madison Square Garden

It does not happen very often but last night during WWE’s return to Madison Square Garden, the company pulled the trigger on a title change as AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens in a non-televised live event.

Styles won a title rematch for the U.S. title by winning the Independence Day battle royal on Smackdown earlier this week, guaranteeing a shot at Kevin Owens’ title at the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view. But for whatever reason, WWE decided to make the title switch early, giving the fans at MSG a nice surprise.

AJ won the title after delivering the Phenomenal Forearm half-way across the ring and then pinning Owens immediately. Earlier in the match, Owens survived the Styles Clash.
