Akira Tozawa wins the Cruiserweight title on Raw

WWE pulled the trigger early on the Cruiserweight title match and held it on Raw last night instead of this Sunday, with Akira Tozawa defeating Neville to become the new champion.

The two were originally set to square off at SummerSlam, although it’s still unclear if the rematch will still happen on the pay-per-view. During Raw, it was described that Titus O’Neil, Tozawa’s manager, went to Kurt Angle to demand a match for Tozawa and Angle accepted.

The switch came to a surprise to many as title changes rarely happen on free TV. Neville had an impressive run as a Cruiserweight champion, holding the title for over six months since winning it at the Royal Rumble from Rich Swann.
