CM Punk does not shoot down idea of return to the ring for WWE

CM Punk started his new role as an analyst on WWE Backstage on FS1 last night and was pretty candid in his comments.

Renee Young led a whole face-to-face interview segment with the former WWE champion and immediately took him to task by asking the most obvious question: is he coming back to the ring?

Punk said he’s 41 years old and he’s learned over the years to never say no. He said that he’s currently a FOX employee and has had no contact with anyone in WWE for the past six years. Punk admitted that for him to step back in the ring for WWE, there’s a bridge that has to be rebuilt and joked that it might take as long as the construction of the Great Wall of China for that to happen. He took the “never say never” approach and also added that there are several hurdles along the way before that actually happens.

Renee mentioned that Survivor Series is in Chicago and Punk told her to stop otherwise they will start chanting his name again, only for Renee to tell him that they never actually stopped.

Punk said that his butterflies were back and that’s a good thing because when he wrestled The Undertaker at WrestleMania several years ago, he said he preferred to be sitting in the back talking to his girlfriend – and now wife – rather than going out to perform. He said that having butterflies and being nervous means that he’s not “dead inside” and thinks that this was the right move for him.
