Daniel Cormier says he had early talks with WWE over future

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Daniel Cormier, the former two-division UFC champion said that he’s had early conversations with WWE about a potential opportunity with the company now that he has retired from the UFC.

Cormier, who is a huge wrestling fan, said that WWE is a company he loved his entire life and watched since he was a kid.

“Put me at the commentary table,” Cormier said. “Let me call the matches for six months and tell you how great these wrestlers are in the ring. I would love that, and I wouldn’t be faking it. WWE is something I’ve loved my entire life.”

Cormier then continued with his fantasy booking. “Then, after those six months, what if I’m sitting next to Michael Cole, and Roman [Reigns] comes over and smacks the microphone out of my hand?” Cormier continued. “But I’m an announcer. Will I hit him back? Then you’re asking if this will happen or not. That’s what I want, that slow build, the type of story you want to see, and your heart feels like it’s going to explode while you’re waiting for it. Give me the slow build, let it simmer.”

Cormier was looking for his “WrestleMania moment” with the UFC when Brock Lesnar crashed one his victories a few years back but that fight never transpired.

The former champ said that he has tremendous amount of respect for WWE and after retirement he’s now just trying to figure out where his life is.
