Former MMA fighter Phil Baroni says he is signing a WWE deal

Phil Baroni, the 38 year old former mixed martial artist, wrote on Twitter that he’s on the way to WrestleMania to sign a WWE deal.

“Just got my flight and tickets to @Wrestlemania. I’m getting flown it to sign my contract and see what the @wwe and @Wrestlemania are about,” Baroni wrote yesterday.

Baroni fought for several different MMA organizations including the UFC, PRIDE, Strikeforce, ONE, and Bellator. His last fight was at Bellator 122 in July of last year. His last three fights were all losses. He has an MMA record of 15-18.

Baroni posted a photo on his Instagram which is a quote from Virgin Group founder Richard Branson which reads, “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later.” This is obviously regarding his lack of wrestling training but shows that he’s willing to learn the ropes.

Baroni will not be the only MMA fighter in town for WrestleMania. Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva are also expected to attend the show.
