Former Raw and Smackdown commentator Tom Phillips released from WWE

Tom Phillips, the former Raw commentator, has been released by WWE according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Wrestling.

Phillips was signed to a WWE contract in 2012 and worked his way up to lead announcer on all WWE television shows including Monday Night Raw and Smackdown. His official role at WWE was Senior Manager, On Air Talent.

The 32-year-old Philly native missed out on doing commentary at WrestleMania and was then permanently replaced by Adnan Virk on Raw. Virk has since lost his job as well and is being replaced by Jimmy Smith.

When WWE announced the Raw and Smackdown commentary team reshuffle, Phillips was relegated to host 205 Live and the press release said that he would also oversee special projects for WWE’s programming on Peacock and at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.
