Four out of six title matches at SummerSlam ended up with brand new champions, with only Liv Morgan and Cody Rhodes coming out of Cleveland still holding on to their gold.
The first one to fall was Intercontinental champion Sami Zayn. In a relatively quick match, it was Bron Breakker who made full use of his second opportunity for the title and quickly defeated Zayn. This is Breakker’s first title on the main roster, with his dad Rick Steiner and uncle Scott Steiner in attendance witnessing the moment.
Logan Paul’s 273-reign also came to an end with LA Knight winning his first title in WWE. Paul only had two previous successful title defenses prior to yesterday and with him being a part-timer, the title is now back full time on WWE television. YEAH!
Nia Jax became a two-time singles champion when she defeated Bayley in a match that had a hint of a Money In The Bank cash-in. But Stratton only did it as an interference, helping her friend win her first title since she returned in September 2023. She got her shot after winning the Queen of the Ring tournament and ended Bayley’s 117-day reign.
The last title swap came in the World Heavyweight title match, with King of the Ring winner Gunther winning his first world title on the main roster. Gunther defeated champion Damian Priest after Finn Balor turned on his stablemate. Gunther’s wife – and former WWE Superstar herself – Jinny was in attendance to celebrate with him. Gunther spent 666 days as Intercontinental champion, maybe a sign of things to come with the WWE World Heavyweight title.
