Intercontinental champion Gunther has made history over the past few days, holding the record for the longest IC title reign of the 21st century.
The Austrian is at 245+ days as champion, surpassing Shelton Benjamin’s 244-day reign from 2004. You have to go back to 1991 for a longer reign, with Mr. Perfect holding on the title for 280 days before losing it to Bret Hart at SummerSlam.
The longest reign is held by Honky Tonk Man at 454 days, a historic title reign which came to a quick end at SummerSlam 88 courtesy of the Ultimate Warrior.
Gunther sits at #24 in the chart of longest-reigning champions overall. Only Greg Valentine (285 days), Macho Man Randy Save (414 days) and Honky Tonk Man have longer single reigns.
