Gunther wins the Intercontinental title on Smackdown

The Intercontinental title changed hands last night on Friday Night Smackdown as Gunther got his first title on the main roster.

The Austrian defeated Ricochet after hitting him with a power bomb, ending Ricochet’s reign following less than 100 days as champion.

Gunther, who as Walter won the NXT UK title with a historic 870-day run as champion, made his main roster debut on the Smackdown after WrestleMania. Up until a few years ago, he was against moving permanently to the United States and was happy being part of the NXT UK brand but is now settled and living in America, allowing him to be part of the main roster.
