John Cena joins cast of Transformers spinoff movie Bumblebee

Hollywood came knocking on John Cena’s door once again as the Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive story reporting that the former WWE champion has joined the cast of the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Cena will be in one of the leading roles in the movie, which has Hailee Steinfeld in the main role along with Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. The movie is produced by Paramount Pictures and will be released in December 2018. Production started today in the state of California but it’s unclear when Cena will be called into action.

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Travis Knight is directing the movie from a script by Christina Hodson. It is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham will also executive produce. The movie is the first spinoff of the widely successful Transformers franchise which generated over $3.7 billion over five different movies all directed by Michael Bay.
