Matt Riddle’s Smackdown debut may be delayed after sexual abuse allegations crop up

Indie pro wrestler Candy Cartwright revealed today that former NXT Tag Team titleholder Matt Riddle forced her into having sex in May of 2018 while the two were in a van with other wrestlers.

“I’m posting this because I have been so sad for so long. I didn’t realize that what he did to me was not ok. I realize now, reading these other brave women’s stories, that I can’t be afraid anymore and I have to #speakout,” Cartwright wrote.

She said that she was riding in a van with Riddle and other wrestlers when the other three fell asleep and Matt asked her to “hop on his dick.” When she refused, Cartwright said that Riddle grabbed her by the throat, choked her and said “what if I just made you?”

Cartwright, the former Shine NOVA champ, said she ended up giving him oral sex to get out of having sexual intercourse with him and was praying someone wouldn’t wake up. “It was incredibly humiliating. It is never ok to put your hands on a woman, it’s also not ok to not listen when she says no,” she wrote.

Lisa Riddle, his wife, contacted her directly and asked her to send her a screen shot of all the messages that the two have together, nothing that her husband was aware she was contacting her. “Please, you owe me that,” the wife says.

Meanwhile, Riddle has denied the allegations in direct messages sent to another Twitter user and said that Cartwright has been harassing him for years and had to change his number three times. “I almost got a restraining order against her but didn’t wanna ruin her career,” he wrote, adding that his lawyer and WWE are already in motion to press charges for defamation and cyber stalking and bullying.

In a short statement responding to the allegations, WWE said, “We take any allegation of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter.”

Riddle was supposed to start on Smackdown tonight but his appearance has been removed from the Smackdown preview on WWE.COM.
